City+ exhibition was prepared as a part of Gdynia Design Days 2014.
Gdynia. An open city. A young city. A seaside city. A resort city. A modernist city. What kind of place is it? Each designer taking part in this project heard a different story from Gdynia. And each of these stories could be enough for a whole exhibition, or even a festival.
It is clear that designers associate Gdynia with the rest and relaxation. Not only on holidays but also in the everyday struggle to repose, recall memories and go back to one’s past. Little wonder, as this nice connotation is even stronger with Gdynia Design Days – the only summer holiday festival on design.
Friendly urban space, the beach that is publicly available but to some extent private, visual objects that understand the city’s tradition and history, facilities that help to make the best use of the sun, and souvenirs that keep memories alive and inspire to come back. The city should take advantage of these designs. The projects prepared for the CITY + 5. 30. 60 exhibition are ready to use. If not to make final products, then at least to identify the direction of art resource. Young but already recognized and hard-working artists are good partners to co-operate with. With the city’s patronage, each of their projects has the potential to become a flagship that is not only widely known but also practically useful.
